Life’s Third Act

Back in the day when Jack LaLane was seeding the landscape with health clubs, Arnold Schwarzenegger was translating his body building prowess into that of a blue chip Hollywood action hero, and Dr. Kenneth H. Cooper invented the word “aerobics,” pioneer and grande dame of fitness videos Jane Fonda cajoled and encouraged a generation of leggings-clad women to get up and get active and strong.

Ever reinventing herself in true American fashion, Fonda to this day advocates for living life fully and actively and evokes her spirit of fitness even as her acting career continues through six decades. Three years ago, Fonda contributed the attached TED talk to the American conversation about aging.

In it she speaks of a longevity revolution and seeks to dispel the old paradigm of aging as pathology. She coins the term “Life’s third act,” describing it as a developmental stage of life. It’s a powerful and compelling proposition.

So, in tribute to Fonda’s tireless lifelong pursuit of fullness, wellness, and shifting landscapes, Fit65 chooses Jane Fonda’s TED talk, Life’s third act to kick-off our own dialogue about the aging process.

Enjoy the next 10 minutes and tell us what you think.
